New Country & Eastern releases may 22: The Vedbod Tapes and More Vedbod Tapes

We are happy to present our next SIX releases that will be launched in The Bucky Dome at Skeppsholmen on may 22. Here are the first two, one cd and one digital-only album with extra material from a special occasion in 1977. With Bengt Berger, Roland Keijser and Kjell Westling. The other albums will be presented here during the next days.

In a “vedbod” (woodshed in swedish) in the swedish countryside three young instrumentalists from the progressive music movement met for three days in the summer of 1977 to play as many meaningful notes as possible. Here are quite a few of them on one cd and one digital-only album with two long extra tracks.
Spontaneous music, colored by jazz, swedish folk and what not.
The musicians are long time associates who have worked together in various musical combinations thru the years:

Roland Keijser who makes his Country & Eastern debut on the Vedbod Tapes is a giant on the swedish music scene since long, eternally curious in free music, jazz of any variety, folkmusic from Sweden, Morocco and India, a pioneer in "world music" with a multitude of recordings to his name. He is mainly a reed and flute person but he is not afraid to try ANYTHING. You will enjoy meeting him if you haven't before. His liner notes to CE20 will give you a good view of him and his thinking. They are duplicated for the two extra pieces on CEX15.

Kjell Westling is the multi-instrument genious that you find on quite a few of our albums. He sadly passed away in 2010.

Bengt Berger. You might have come across the name since I'm the drummer who is running Country & Eastern.

K. Shivakumar – one year since his demise

2012 was a year we lost so many musicians and friends. On april 22, exactly one year back, K. Shivakumar left this world. He was a very close friend and a wonderful violinist, one of the very few A grade musicians, not only in Karnatic music but also in Hindustani (M.S.G who just passed as well is the only other one I know of) which he learned from age five from Ustad Zia Mohiuddin Dagar. He was born on may 18, 1945. He is missed a lot. Click below to listen   Read more »
